Prospect 2021

Setting goals for New Year can help motivate us but there may be times it makes us feel not good enough. This can eventually lead to what we ultimately don’t want - separating us to what we ought to be and what we feel we are now. Here are some helpful wisdom gained that was inspired by our life experiences, insights from Taoism, and interactions with our patients over the years:

1. Set your intentions based on already accepting who you are (flaws and all) rather than who we think or what society tells us what we should be. Don’t compare yourself to others. We are going through our own journey, not theirs.

2. Don’t get too fixated with what the outcome should be. Growth is a process, not an endgame. There are no start-end point in the cycles of nature; and, as humans, we need to remember we are part of nature that embraces diversity, not exclusivity.

3. Break your plans down into steps and keep it flexible just in case unexpected changes come your way. Be like water.

4. Provide a regular feedback loop to keep you in check. Let’s face it - with the burden of the pandemic as well as climatic challenges to deal with, feeling frustrated, angry, and anxious is a normal human experience. Know your strengths and weakness, and, most of all, know your boundaries. Sometimes we get so caught up in trying to do the right thing that we forget to consider if we are equipped to handle it. So plan well.

5. Keep yourself in balance and harmony with action and non-action (yang and yin). For example, you do a one hour weight training to improve cardio and physical endurance (yang). Equally important to include the state of tranquility such as sleep, meditation, and taking regular breaks from work (yin).

6. Learn from your experience and focus on the moment. You can’t enjoy and make most of your moment if you are always worrying about the future or regretting the past.

Remember, growth is part of our nature. We can have goals but having the right attitude is important to be in harmony with ourselves and our environment. So keep smiling, stay safe, and enjoy life. :)
